The event took place at the Church of Scientology & Community Centre of Dublin. Presentations throughout the day showed how community assistance can range from direct support for people news europe today facing hardship to programmes promoting independence and inclusion.

Among the speakers was South Dublin Mayor Cllr. Francis Timmons, who presented the practical assistance provided through Clondalkin Helping Homeless.

Silvia Fani introduced participants to the activities of Scientology Volunteer Ministers, including community projects and responses to emergencies.

Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard established the Volunteer Ministers programme in the 1970s, developing an approach based on practical action and personal assistance. Its motto is “Something Can Be Done About It.”

An interactive session later allowed participants to become familiar with several methods used within the Volunteer Ministers programme.

Taken together, the presentations illustrated how humanitarian work can be carried out by organisations with very different areas of expertise.
